Following the general economic depression, imports of foreign dairy products increase. In Bavaria there is a milk surplus, while butter and cheese sales stagnate. As a result, Adam Pickel and Georg Bachmann found the “Bayerische Markenbutter-Verkaufsgenossenschaft” (Bavarian quality butter marketing cooperative) on 27 March 1930, bringing together all quality butter producers. Uniform pricing, constant quality control and joint sales activities are the targets set for the future. From June 1930 16 dairies begin supplying their produce. By the end of the year 45 companies are following the same idea.
